Hello everyone!
I hope you’ve all been staying safe and healthy in this unusual time! Here’s a fun practice to try while we’re staying home! Enjoy!
Have you fluffed your aura lately?
Everything is energy. Einstein proved it. Energy, life force, prana—call it what you may, it’s all energy.
The chakras pictured in my logo represent the standard seven energy centers / wheels that store energy, life force prana. In many past newsletters I focused on various chakras and tied them into the seasons we were in. Here’s the summary introducing chakras from my past newsletters:
There are seven energy centers called chakras (literally “wheels”) that store energy/life force prana. They are along the spinal column and correlate to major nerve ganglia branching forth from the spinal column. Each has a different relationship to a gland in the body’s endocrine system. Each stimulates different organs and systems in the body. Hatha Yoga activates these energy centers releasing the energy that flows through the spine. Yoga helps these energy centers/nerve bundles to function correctly, clearing blocks that may be there. Each chakra is also associated with a mental/emotional focus.
Chakras can be considered our internal energy centers and distribute energy throughout the body. Today I’m going to dwell on our outside energy field or aura. Both chakras and auras reflect our health and vitality. Both channels of energy can get clogged due to stress and illness.
(FYI: I offer a free chakra balancing and loving kindness meditation when you sign up for my newsletter on my website.)
One of my favorite authors and well known energy experts is Donna Eden. I quote her work often in my classes (Energy Medicine is a favorite book of mine!). Many energy experts say that diseases in our body are reflected in our aura before they are manifested in our physical body. This is a good thing, right? I want a head’s up don’t you? The colors and shapes of the aura are changed by our emotions, physical health, relationships, environment, etc. We’re like a walking mood ring!
I personally can’t read or see auras but we can all feel the energy around us! Here’s a quick exercise to feel our auras that’s sometimes referred to as an energy ball exercise.
Rub your palms together in circular motion, activating the energy from your palm chakras. This should create a heat sensation. I often refer to this energy center as the center we use to make our boo-boos feel better. We’ve all done it, right? We’ve all put our hands over a spot we just bruised and held it there or rubbed it with our palms. THIS is our palm chakras at work!
Now keep your arms raised with the activated palms facing each other and start to bring them toward each other until you feel a sensation of sorts. Now pull the hands apart slowly and bring them back together slowly. Do you feel it? That’s your energy field or aura! Cool, right?! Now it’s getting interesting!
In my last in-person yoga class a couple of weeks ago, I cued an energy exercise from Donna Eden’s book called “Celtic Weave”. This exercise ends with an aura fluff. Knowing what I know about the health of our aura being a protective field, I thought it would be a good practice to have in our back pocket right now. It’s also fun to do—and we could all use a bit of fun right now too, right?
The Celtic Weave energy “surrounds, contains, and weaves through the aura” according to Donna.
From her book, Energy medicine:
“The term ‘Celtic Weave’ refers to both an energy system and an exercise. They share a name because the function of the energy system is identical to the goal of the exercise. If the energy system is not weaving your energies properly, this technique will get it going again.”
“Like invisible threads that keep all the energy systems functioning as a single unit, the Celtic Weave networks throughout and around the body in spiraling figure-eight patterns. It is a living system, continually weaving new cross-overs, ever expanding and contracting.”
She sees it as the “cloth that weaves all the energies together”, and includes all of the energy systems in the body including but not limited to the chakras, auras, meridians and something referred to as our “radiant circuits”.
In yoga tradition, the Celtic Weave energy system is represented by the two subtle energy pathways that cross seven times, symbolically encasing the chakras as described earlier. Donna Eden refers to the crisscrossing energies as permeating the body and serving as “connective tissue” for your energy system.
This exercise strengthens the energy field around you (aura) and protects you from harmful energies in the environment! SO given all that’s going on in the world today, do you see why I decided to bring this practice into my yoga session with my students?
Here’s a copy of a card with instructions from her Energy Medicine Kit:
And there’s a YouTube showing her and her daughters performing this as well.
What I’d forgotten when we were doing this is that I am lucky enough to have a student who sees energies. So she could see the auras in the room. After class, we were saying our goodbyes and my energy-reading student mentioned that she was in the back of the room so she was able to see all the auras in the room. She excitedly shared that she could see the aura’s expand, connect and fill up the room as we finished with the aura fluff!
“The room was full of auras!”
How cool is that?! That was proof positive for me, not that I ever doubted this practice! It was just so confirming and what a treat for all of us present to hear.
So as we all hunker down with the current events at hand, try the Celtic Weave ending with an aura fluff! Your aura looks like it could use a little fluffing!
